June 5th, 2010 Rose Family Medicine celebrates it's 40th year of accreditation as a Family Medicine Program. Please check out the blog. It's an awesome feeling to have trained family physicians for four decades!
June 5, 2010 marks the 40th year of the Rose Family Medicine Residency at Rose Medical Center! We first received our accreditation on June 5th, 1970. Congratulations and well-wishes to all who have made this partnership so successful over 4 decades of educating family medicine physicians.
June 1, 2010 The Rose Family Medicine Residency bids goodbye to one of our longtime faculty, Marc Grushan, MD. Marc has been with the Rose Residency for more than a decade, and is moving from a position as residency faculty to a private practice opportunity in Boulder. Marc will be part of a group that makes house-calls to the elderly and home-bound, and is excited about his new opportunity but will miss RFMR immensely. Marc leaves behind a legacy of education and contributions to the Rose program that will benefit our program for decades to come, and we will miss you! Best of luck in your new endeavor! (A search for new faculty is underway!)

Hello! I’m a native Hoosier, from Indianapolis, IN. Staying true to my Hoosier roots, I attended Indiana University, and obtained a B.S. in Biology. While waiting tables at a small restaurant there, I also met my wonderfully supportive husband, Joe. Shortly after graduation, we moved to sunny San Diego, CA, where I pursued a short-lived career in the lab, researching both infectious disease in military recruits and PCOS. In addition to realizing that I was no lab rat, I also learned that I absolutely LOVED the mountains and everything that they have to offer. Although I returned to Indianapolis for medical school shortly thereafter, I knew that I would eventually settle in the mountains. My husband and I looked to many regions of the country to pursue a residency, but Colorado quickly became an easy choice. I specifically chose Rose for many reasons: their dedication to growing both professionally and personally, their commitment to work/life balance, as well as the unopposed residency/community hospital- which I feel is the best environment for a training family physician. In my free time (which we do actually have!), I enjoy camping, hiking, attempting to ski, wine tasting, cooking, playing with my dog and two cats, and exploring all that Denver has to offer with my husband.

Lisa Sandvig, MD
University of Minnesota Medical School, Minneapolis, MN
I am originally from the small town of Litchfield, Minnesota and went on to spend eight years in Minneapolis for college and medical school. I love the variety that family medicine has to offer and Colorado is among the very best places to practice primary care. The supportive atmosphere among the residents and faculty at Rose was the biggest factor in my decision to come here. In addition, Rose has the major features I was looking for in a residency: it is a community-based program with a smaller class size and we are the only residency at the hospital. The convenience of having the family medicine center next door to the hospital cannot be overstated! I am delighted to be in Colorado for the change in scenery and I know I will enjoy the extra twenty-five degrees this winter.

Hello! I grew up in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and went to college at the University of Michigan (GO BLUE!!!) where I studied biological anthropology. After graduating, I took a year off and worked at home where I met my fiancé, Ted. For medical school, I went to the University of Pittsburgh and yes I am a Steelers and Penguins fan (sorry Broncos). Family medicine on the east coast was not everything I was looking for, so I set my sights west and it didn’t take long for me to fall in love with Colorado. I’m interested in community medicine, women’s health, OB and peds. Some of my outside hobbies include hiking, biking, traveling, photography, skiing, hanging out with my fiancé & our two dogs (Cody and Zora), wedding planning and working on our new house! I am so happy to be at Rose with such caring faculty and fellow residents AND in the wonderful state of Colorado with its awesome mountains and where the sun actually shines!! Feel free to email with any questions!

I grew up in Oakland, CA where my parents kept me out of trouble by making me play soccer, tennis, basketball, baseball, skiing…well you get the point. I attended the University of California, Berkeley for undergrad where I was able to narrow the sports down to basketball and lacrosse. (GO BEARS!) Not wanting to grow up, I spent a few years after graduation working several interesting jobs and traveling. Working as an engineer for a company that developed software for image-guided surgery made me realize 2 things; one, that I hated working in a cubicle and two, that I loved medicine. So, I dragged my loving and supportive husband and daughter (now 5 yrs old) to Missouri for medical school. I had another little one at the end of my 4th year and decided to take a year off. (Duried and I are classmates.) Needless to say, it’s been a long road to the right career. Everyday I thank my lucky stars I’m here at Rose because this residency is awesome! Not only does RFMR have top-notch faculty, but you get to learn and work in a supportive, caring and friendly environment. The residents are laid-back, fun and have many different interests within family medicine. Plus, affordable living, good food and tons of outdoor activities at your doorstep, what more could a girl want?!

I was fortunate to be born and raised in the beautiful Colorado Rocky Mountains where I grew up hiking, skiing and generally enjoying the outdoors. I spent my childhood in Snowmass Village, CO and later moved to the Denver area where I attended Regis University (previously attended by Bill Murray). The only time I did not live in CO was in medical school and I missed it terribly, so it was only natural for me to want to return home to my family, close friends, dry air, and the mountains. My husband and best friend, James, and I could not be happier to be back! We love being able to rock climb, trail run, hike, snowshoe, and go backpacking whenever we have a chance. We also travel often and have gone on some great hiking/climbing and mountaineering adventures in the Alps/Dolomites and Himalayas over the last several years. Besides the outdoors, I enjoy spending time with good friends (mostly outside), playing games and tennis, crocheting, and eating all the good food there is to choose from in Denver and Boulder. I chose Rose after doing a few sub-internships in Denver because it seemed to be the best fit for me. I was also impressed by the diversity and varying expertise of the staff and residents here. My dream is to return to a small mountain town to raise future children and practice family medicine, including some urgent care and wilderness medicine.

Hello from the top of the world…or, rather, the top of a very tall mountain! In contrast to the mountains of Colorado, I grew up approximately 350 miles east of Denver on the great plains of Nebraska with not a hill in sight. I earned my undergrad degree in Spanish at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln before attending med school in Omaha at UNMC and choosing to pursue family medicine. My current interests in family medicine include rural medicine and sports medicine, but I anticipate that these will evolve as I continue through residency. I am excited to be at Rose with a group of faculty and residents who are enthusiastic about providing primary care to a diverse population. I can’t wait to experience all of the outdoor activities that Colorado has to offer and hope to make it through my first ski season unscathed!
