June 7, 2010 Welcome to Lori DePriest, newest member of our residency program support team. She will utilize her valuable skills as our new Residency Project Coordinator.
June 5th, 2010 Rose Family Medicine celebrates it's 40th year of accreditation as a Family Medicine Program. Please check out the blog. It's an awesome feeling to have trained family physicians for four decades!
June 5, 2010 marks the 40th year of the Rose Family Medicine Residency at Rose Medical Center! We first received our accreditation on June 5th, 1970. Congratulations and well-wishes to all who have made this partnership so successful over 4 decades of educating family medicine physicians.
June 1, 2010 The Rose Family Medicine Residency bids goodbye to one of our longtime faculty, Marc Grushan, MD. Marc has been with the Rose Residency for more than a decade, and is moving from a position as residency faculty to a private practice opportunity in Boulder. Marc will be part of a group that makes house-calls to the elderly and home-bound, and is excited about his new opportunity but will miss RFMR immensely. Marc leaves behind a legacy of education and contributions to the Rose program that will benefit our program for decades to come, and we will miss you! Best of luck in your new endeavor! (A search for new faculty is underway!)
CHARLENE BORJA, DO
University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine,
Biddeford, ME
Born and bred in a suburb, of NYC, I received most of my education in the Northeast, including Binghamton NY, Cambridge, MA, and ultimately Biddeford, ME. Nearing the completion of medical school, I decided it was time for a change and Colorado was the most appealing to me. With it's mountains, eternal sunshine, clean air, and clean living, I could not resist. Aside from the ACGME competencies, one of our philosophies at RFMR is Work hard, Play hard. If you agree with this lifestyle, then RFMR is for you.
ERIN HEKMATPOUR, MD
University of North Carolina School of Medicine, Chapel Hill, NC
Erin is a graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and grew up in Arkansas. She has lived overseas in Saudi Arabia and Lebanon and ultimately hopes to practice medicine overseas working among the underserved. She is interested in the relationship between faith and healing and was involved with the Christian Medical and Dental Association in medical school. She also enjoys photography, hiking, and time with her family.
AMBER KOCH-LAKING, MD
University of Wisconsin Medical School, Madison, WI
Very early on, I learned the fine art of beer battering and deep frying...cheese curds of course in the one of the coldest states in the union-Wisconsin. During undergrad at the University of Wisconsin "Bucky Badger" became a household name, but I also ran around with other furry mammals for four years doing research at the University Primate Center. Because I loved the ice and snow so much, I decided to stay at the UW for medical school. I was able to do international studies and clinical work in Costa Rica during this time and was where I fell in love with family medicine and community health care. I was looking for an adventure after med school, (ok and also some warmer weather) and found Rose Family Medicine. The program has an exceptional combination of community hospital and university training. I feel very lucky to have such intelligent, diverse and fun residents and faculty to work beside.
LORRAINE
RUFNER, MD
Tufts
University School of Medicine, Boston, MA
I am originally from the San Francisco bay area and I went to UC San Diego for college. All of my old biochem books still have sand in the bindings! I just couldn't bring myself to leave SD right after I graduated, so I stayed for an extra two years, working as a lab tech and enjoying the beach and the sun. My husband and I went to Tufts University for med school; and moved across the country; trading the SoCal sea breeze for the Red Sox and the Pats! We had a good time out there, but we are happy to have moved back west. His family is here in Denver and we love living here. We enjoy the mountains; skiing, hiking and backpacking are some of our favorite activities. I also love to run distance races, swim and bike. I chose to come to Rose because of the people- the residents are a diverse group of smart people who like to have fun. Rose is a good mix between a University program and an independent program.
ALICEA WU, MD
New York Medical College, Valhalla, NY
I grew up in Boulder, Colorado and have always loved the friendly people, the crisp mountain air, and all the good food Colorado has to offer. After attending medical school in New York and spending the first part of residency in San Francisco, I am excited to return to my home state. I chose Rose because I know I will receive great training here to be an excellent family physician and I enjoy working with our fun group of residents and faculty. My professional interests include women's health, office-based procedures, and adolescent medicine. My other interests include fun things (volleyball, hiking, watching The Office), yummy things (steak, sushi, gelato), and cheesy things (sappy love songs, feta, my husband)
